Concurrent with the Arrival of Muharram; the Banner of Mourning Raised High on the Razavi Dome
Concurrent with the arrival of Muharram, the banner of mourning was raised high on the Razavi Dome. On the eve of Muharram, the black banner was put up on the Dome of the Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (A.S.) Shrine.

On the morning coinciding 30th Zi-Al-Hajja, the banner of Imam Reza (A.S.) Shrine was replaced with a black one as a token of the beginning of Muharram; this banner will be raised high on the illuminated Razavi Shrine until the 3rd  of Rabī' (three days after Imam Reza (A.S.) was martyred).
As the declaration of the mourning for the Lord of Martyrs, this ceremony was held in the holy Imam Reza (A.S.) Shrine, in the presence of the pilgrims and citizens; also lamentation and mourning rituals were also held in Razavi Shrine after the ceremony.
Based on this report, traditional ceremonies of praying and replacing the banner and covering of the holy and enlightened Razavi shrine will also be held, as well as the declaration of the mourning for the Lord of Martyrs, on the 1st of Muharram al-Haram, in the presence of the servants of Imam Reza (A.S.) Shrine, pilgrims and other citizens and the recitation of proper prayers and requiem and mourning in the holy Razavi Shrine.
In this morning ceremony of the first day of the Muharram, the servants of holy Razavi Shrine will gather in Dar Al-Hekma porch and after recitation of Holy Qur'an and requiem by one of the panegyrists, they will move toward the finials of the heavenly Shrine of the Eighth Imam (A.S.) by citing "This is the crescent of the month of sorrow or the crescent of Zeynab", "All the people in the world chant 'O Hussain'", and "Consolations O Ibn al-Hasan, consolations O Ibn al-Hasan".
